"There is one question that, perhaps more than any other, gets to the root of who we are and what motivates us:What did I need to do in childhood to win the support and approval of my parents?"

This article applies to organizational life because it discovers insight on why someone behaves and acts in a certain manner within the professional context. Understanding the criteria on which love and approval were gained in our early childhood can help explain our current motivations, fears, and behaviors in a professional situation. This can enable individuals and coaches to distinguish and reject old or unhelpful patterns, which could be hampering the process of maturation, and then transform it into better and more authentic relations.

It literally calls for individuals to audit themselves and their personal history to explore the influences in their lives that have shaped them. This allows for the viewing of the family "edicts" that each, to one degree or another, has bought into without even knowing it and putting consciousness around these and how they may be playing out in work life.
